Challenges

The client wanted a website to serve not only as an introduction to the East Campus Psychology Department at Valencia College but also as information to the different kinds of internships offered and careers that can be achieved with a psychology degree. The previous site was only partially created and didn’t meet the department’s expectations.

Deliverables

  • Logo
  • Website Design
  • Responsive Design
  • Faculty Page
  • Tabular Selection for Internships

Previous Site

As mentioned before, the previous site was unfinished and did not reflect the image that the department wanted to project.  The homepage was missing the navigation completely and a few icons were not showing up properly.  The slideshow at the bottom wasn’t functional at all and the rest of the site was missing huge design details.  A renovation was much needed.

The Color Scheme

Taking the colors straight from Valencia Marketing Guide, the site would bear more a resemblance to the Collegiate site than a stand-alone site.

The Logo

Considering this site belongs to the East Campus Psychology Department at Valencia College, I wanted viewers to feel like they were within a section of the Valencia College’s main website. I achieved this through the color scheme and also the logo.  Consisting of the School’s Logo, I drafted a design that also indicated the Department.

Faculty Page

For this site, the client wanted a team page that would introduce students to the faculty.  One thing I wanted to stay away from was the overuse of plugins. If there’s a better way to implement something without using plugins, I wanted to go that route. Therefore, using WordPress’s original purpose of creating blogs, I was able to create a beautiful faculty page that would allow the client to easily remove and add profiles as professors may come and go.

Tabular Selection

It’s always exciting when I’ve learned two different tools at different times and finally put them together to see how it works.  In this case, I was able to implement the popular library jQueryUI into my WordPress document.  This allowed me to use tabs to create an internship information board on this site and furthermore, was able to design using images and colors.  I’m very happy with the way it turned out and so was the client!
